About Bristol Harbor Group
Recent work at Bristol Harbor Group, Inc. includes functional designs for tugs, barges, passenger vessels, a hopper dredge and a production displacement trawler. Barge designs range from a 130 foot crane barge to 400 foot offshore deck cargo barges, and include double hull oil barges and chemical barges. Powered vessel designs range from a 50 foot model bow tug to a 156 foot azimuth drive split hull hopper dredge. Modification experience includes the conversion of a 140 foot inland deck barge to a transportation barge for the U.S. Navy; and upgrades to an 82’ sail training vessel.
The firm is located in a boatyard on the harbor in Bristol, Rhode Island. The executive team is comprised of Greg Beers, P.E., and Cory Wood, who met while students at the University of Michigan Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. Greg and Cory incorporated Bristol Harbor Group, Inc. (formerly FG Marine Design, Inc.) with two other college friends in Rhode Island in 1995.
The greater technical team includes University of Michigan, Webb Institute, U.S. Coast Guard Academy and University of Southampton trained naval architects, many with Master’s degrees in addition to their Bachelor’s degrees in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, and three with Professional Engineering Licenses.
The Core Purpose of our company is: To Create. This purpose, combined with a passion for boats, serves as the motivation for our talented staff. As a sage naval architect once asked,
“Is the vessel owner your client? No, Is the shipyard? No, the ship is your client!”
This adage rings true at Bristol Harbor Group, Inc. We try very hard to ensure that our simple, efficient and practical designs are true to each vessel and her mission.
Vision: To be the most well respected naval architecture and marine engineering firm in the nation as measured against our core values.
